Michael Stone
Hello, my name is Michael, I live in Brighton and I love all things photographic.
I am a full-time photographer and have been for over 3 years. Due to the combination of professional work and academic studies, I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by photography for a large portion of my life.
Studying photography at school, then later on in college really made me appreciate film photography and the process behind it. Due to my new found interest in analog photography, I went sifting through my family’s old photos.
After dusting off old albums, folders, and lose photos I was shocked at the damage these old photos had picked up while being, what we thought to be, untouched in the boxes for so many years.
This inspired me to repair, restore, and ultimately reprint these old photos, gifting them back to my family on various occasions and I’ve been obsessed with restorations since.
In rummaging through these old boxes I found a number of 35mm film cameras that, much like the family photos, had certainly seen better days.
My dad is a mechanic and has always involved me in repairing cars along with general tinkering. Because of this, I have always been fascinated with taking things apart and finding out how they work.
So when I found these 35mm cameras, this curiosity lead me to take them apart and repair them - Since this, I’m forever taking apart old camera gear and love bringing them back to life.
I enjoy both the process of restoring old photos digitally, seeing the reaction of my family, and reviving a camera that no longer works; I decided to turn it into a business.
